FREQUENTLY  ASKED  PAINTING  QUESTIONS

8.   Where's the "300 Series" book?

The short answer is:  I haven't had time to create it, yet.  Ideally (and probably, logically), I would have had it available when the "300 Series" began airing on PBS.  The problem is, I am so involved with every aspect of the TV broadcast production, that I can't always coincide the two projects.  But, I so enjoy my work on the broadcast, that I'm not willing (yet) to "sub" that out.  So.....the "300 Series" book will have to wait, a bit.  I hope to have it available in the late spring of '06.

But, don't overlook the many learning advantages of the DVD format.  Up until now, I've chosen to put my energies into my DVD series, as I am convinced that this exciting medium combines the advantages of both the "learn to paint" book and "learn to paint" VHS tape.

Unlike the old VHS tapes, DVDs have the distinct advantage of being structured with an index menu.  If you want to focus only on "shading rocks", simply "click" to that chapter of the DVD.  You don't have to fast-forward or rewind and try to guess where this section is.  The menu will take you exactly there!  You can play that one section over and over again.  And, you have the ability to freeze a large, clear visual image on your television--far larger than what a book can provide!

While it is true that you can play a DVD straight through--just like a rented DVD movie--you don't have to.  With a chapter-menu system you jump around to different sections of the DVD, just like you can with a book.  As a learning tool, this is significant!

I don't know--call me "new-fashioned", but I see the DVD medium has a huge leap in learning technology!  And, the letters and emails that I have been receiving, from DVD users, has reinforced this belief.
